The Artists’ Union of Armenia was founded in 1932. Armenian artists’ just like other artists’ of the World did and still do occupy a special place in the society’s hierarchy. Being bright individuals, they managed to meet the ideological challenges of those tough times when the foundations of the Union were laid and complete their mission, that is to restore the temporal connections in Armenian art.

From the very day of its foundation until now the Artists’ Union is one of the principal columns that support the culture of Armenia. It united artists, facilitated their fruitful work, ensured preservation and systematization of national art heritage, cared for the new generations of talented individuals and created a good climate for their growth.

From some recent years it has been headed by Professor Karen Aghamyan, the President of the Artists’ Union of Armenia.

Due to the active and purposeful policy of the Union , many gifted artists, sculptors and representatives of other branches were generally recognized in all cultural centers of the World.

Within recent years the rating of Armenian art has risen significantly, which made the involvement of our artists in the global processes of spiritual development obvious. Witnesses to this are numerous prizes, awards, medals and diplomas brought by the members of the Union from international exhibitions, festivals and competitions bake to Armenia.

There is an interrupted process that is going on in Armenia, too. There are personal, subject and joint exhibitions, exhibitions of studants' works and works of artists from different regions of Armenia these has already been continuing for several years and allowed to keep the public aware of what’s going on in the world of art.

There was the ceremonial celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Union in September 13, 2002. An exhibition dedicated to this date was held on that occasion.

Many Yerevanians and lovers of art from all around Armenia, members creative unions, representatives of foreign embassies and international organizations , Government officials as well as the President of Armenia himself came to congratulate the artists with the jubilee of their union and visit the exhibition that president the best recently created works of Armenian art.
